Exploring slip- and catch bonds in reversable networks
Dynamic covalent networks (DCNs) form a new class of polymeric material which bridges the properties of thermosets and thermoplastics. Recently, our group has shown a DCN which – against all intuition – becomes stronger (more resistant against creep) when a force is applied. This effect, where applying a force strengthens a bond, is called a catch bond. My research focusses on the development of new catch-bond containing DCNs, as well as on the development of novel methods to show and analyze this behavior in polymeric materials.
