Research profile
Yoeri van de Burgt is an Associate Professor in the Microsystems group at TU/e as well as a member of the Institute of Complex Molecular Studies (ICMS). His expertise spans materials science, nanotechnology, organic electronics, cell-material interfaces, laser applications and neuromorphic engineering. Tuition includes mechanical engineering, microsystems and design-based learning. Currently, his group neuromorphic engineering is studying the optimisation of materials for organic neuromorphic devices as well as developing neuromorphic arrays for brain-inspired smart biosensors and diagnostic lab-on-a-chips, for which he was awarded an ERC Starting Grant in 2018. He was recently elected as an MIT innovator under 35 Europe 2019.
Academic background
Yoeri van de Burgt obtained his PhD degree at Eindhoven University of Technology in 2014. He then briefly worked at a high-tech startup in Switzerland, after which he obtained a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the department of Materials Science and Engineering at Stanford University (USA) with prof. Alberto Salleo. During his postdoc his research focused on organic neuromorphic materials and electrochemical transistors. At the end of 2016, van de Burgt returned to Eindhoven as an assistant professor where he currently leads the Neuromorphic Engineering group. He has also been a visiting professor at the University of Cambridge (UK) in 2017. In 2019 he was elected to the Eindhoven Young Academy. He is also member of the scientific advisory board of the Centre for Cognitive Systems and Materials (Cognigron) at the University of Groningen.
